The Cardigan

As far as I'm concerned you can never have too many cardigans and I have many. I always have one with me when I am going out. Too often, I end up at friend's homes or in stores, restaurants and church where it's too chilly for me.
Most of them are purchased at the thrift stores. When I shop thrift, I look for the top brands like J. Crew, Worthington, Izod and Eddie Bauer. Often at the thrift stores all sweaters are the same price. Why pay the same for a Walmart special when you can get a good name brand at the same price.
You need the basic colors. Navy, white and black lightweight cardigans are a must. For cooler weather I look for cable knits and luxurious cashmere. Add some argyle to the collection too. They look great paired with jeans and cords for a neat casual look. I recently saw the Kate Spade Afton cardigan. Love those white buttons! So I pulled out a plain navy J Crew cardigan I recently purchased at Goodwill and bought some little white bow buttons on Ebay for $3 with shipping and I'm going to swap out the buttons tonight! No way could I afford the Kate Spade version but I can copy it!

The Classic Preppy Look

I exited the highway and turned into the entrance for the grocery store. As I waited at the stop sign I watched several people crossing to enter the market. Most were dressed in jeans or sloppy sweats. But a woman caught my eye. She was 70 or older, wearing navy chinos, a white button down shirt and brown loafers. She exuded class. She stood out in the crowd. She was a queen among peasants.
I am 55. I'm not comfortable in low-rise jeans or camisoles or skinny tees. Give me a pair of Dockers, a classic shirt and a pair of nice walking shoes and I feel good. And when I feel good and I'm comfortable, I walk taller and I feel confident.
Dressing preppy doesn't have to cost a lot. I get my ideas from the expensive designers and then I make them work on my budget. That's what this blog will be about.....Ideas for women like me. Over 50. Women who want to look their best. Who want to feel confident. Women who don't want to dress like their 20 something daughter!
